Everyone learns differently. After years of teaching, Vladimir Alejandro Urtecho Ortiz can quickly tell which format is going to work for each student. This guide helps you get your bearings before the trial class.
One-to-one: for fast progress
This is the format with the most progress per hour invested, because 100% of the speaking time is yours. It suits you if you have a goal with a deadline (an interview, a move abroad, an exam), if your schedule changes every week, or if you'd rather make mistakes without an audience. It's also the best option for very early or very advanced levels, where a generic group falls short.
Small group: for fluency
With a maximum of 5 students at the same level, the group adds something a one-to-one class can't: varied conversation partners. You hear other accents, you debate, you negotiate turns to speak — just like real life. It suits you if your level is A2–B2, if a fixed schedule keeps you motivated, and if price matters: it works out at under €9.50 an hour.
Business English: for your career
Five surgical sessions focused on YOUR situation: we prepare your actual interview, your actual presentation, your real emails (anonymised). It includes recorded mock sessions so you can hear yourself and we can measure the before and after. It suits you if English is the barrier between you and a promotion, a job change or international clients.
Exams: for the certificate
Here, knowing English isn't enough: you need to know THE exam. We work on the four scored skills (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking), stopwatch in hand, using official marking criteria. It suits you if you need the certificate for a public-sector exam, a scholarship, a university degree or your company.
Still not sure? That's normal: on paper, every format sounds good. That's what the free trial class is for: in 30 minutes I assess your level, listen to your goal and recommend a format with arguments — even if my recommendation is the cheapest one. And nothing is irreversible: some students start in a group and switch to one-to-one when their exam approaches, and vice versa. Your plan adapts to your life, not the other way round.
Cambridge preparation, in detail
The exams I prepare most are the Cambridge B1 Preliminary and the B2 First. I know them piece by piece, and my preparation rests on three things: knowing the format, training against the clock and mastering the strategy for each part.
The B1 Preliminary has four papers: Reading (45 min), Writing (45 min), Listening (30 min) and Speaking (12 min in pairs). The B2 First raises the bar: Reading & Use of English (75 min), Writing (80 min, two texts), Listening (40 min) and Speaking (14 min). In both, each skill counts for 25% and your result is expressed on the Cambridge English Scale: you need 140 to pass the B1 and 160 for the B2 — and if you score above 180 on the B2, you're awarded C1 level!
My typical plan runs 3 to 5 months depending on your starting point, and includes:
- Initial level test using real past papers
- One full timed mock exam per month, marked against the official criteria
- A bank of connectors, Writing templates and Speaking phrases that score high
- Targeted training on the part you struggle with most (almost always the Listening)
My students walk into the exam knowing exactly what they're going to find. The nerves don't disappear completely — they're human — but the uncertainty does.
Online or in person? An honest comparison
Both work — the research and my experience agree — but they're not identical. Online classes save you travel time, give you total scheduling flexibility (from 8:00 to 21:00) and have teaching advantages of their own: we share the screen, I write notes you take away when we finish, and we record snippets of conversation to compare your progress month by month. It's the natural option if you live outside Málaga, travel often or squeeze the class in between meetings.
The in-person class, in my classroom at Calle Carretería 42 (central Málaga), offers something different: zero distractions, full body language and that special focus of sitting across from your teacher. If the computer scatters your attention, if you already spend too many hours on video calls, or if you simply enjoy the face-to-face, it's your format.
Many students combine both: in person one week, online the next; or in person in winter and online in summer. You choose, and you can change whenever you like — no paperwork, no penalties. The study plan, materials and follow-up are exactly the same in both formats.

No enrolment, no lock-in
Start whenever you like and stop whenever you like. No single class commits you to anything else.
Packs that save money
The 10-class online pack works out at €20 per class (you save €20) and the in-person pack at €24. They expire after 6 months: plenty of time.
Simple payment
Bank transfer or Bizum after the class, or at the start of each month for groups. Always with a receipt, always clear.
Flexible cancellation
Give 24 hours' notice and we reschedule the class for another day at no cost. Life happens; the method allows for it.
A note on prices: I publish them because I believe transparency is part of the deal, and I keep them within Málaga's reasonable average because I want students who can sustain their classes for months — which is what a language really needs. If you compare, compare everything included: my rates already cover original materials, correction of tasks between classes and quarterly follow-up with recordings. No surprise extras, no hidden "premium packs".
Stories that started with a trial class
Three students, three goals, three different journeys with the same teacher.
I arrived with rusty A2 English and a job interview in English three months away. Vladimir built an intensive plan with recorded mock interviews; by the real one, I practically knew the questions. I got the job and now I work in English every day.
I tried the small group almost purely for the price, and it turned out to be the best decision: there are four of us, we laugh a lot, and because the levels are well matched nobody gets left behind. In a year I went from not daring to speak to travelling to Ireland on my own.
I needed the B2 First for my public-sector exam and I'd already failed it twice because of the Listening. Vladimir spotted the problem in the first class, we trained it daily with his audio clips and I passed with 168 points. I owe it to his method.
